Kelly Nicholls, real estate advisor at McKinney Advisory Group and event coordinator/co-founding member of MIT Firefighter for a Day said, “I know the harrowing employment statistics and challenges that our local military service face after being discharged. It was more than I expected to witness this major life change in person.
New Horizon Learning Center deserves a special thank-you. Each attendee received a $220 voucher per person for a Microsoft Office Course from New Horizon. Kevin Landry, CEO, New Horizons Computer Learning Centers in Southern California stated, “It was fascinating to see how military, businesses, and first responders all have the same foundations: respect and communication, responsibility, and that is what it took.” As business leaders, we have an obligation to prepare military personnel for civilian careers. It is essential for our freedom, our businesses, and the San Diego economy.
These events bring together business leaders and veterans from the military to build bonds and mentorship. This will allow the MIT to become more effective problem solvers, better decision makers, and more active leaders. This networking event is designed to assist our Veterans in learning business practices and building their professional network. Executives also get a unique opportunity to network and recruit.
Corporal Adam P. Wood, a Marine Corps officer, expressed his interest in the event to his fellow Marines. He said that “For Marines interested to transition into the fire department this is an excellent chance to build relationships and experience a glimpse at a career as a firefighter.” Oceanside FD members were professional and offered any support they could to military personnel who wanted to transition into firefighting or another public safety occupation.
This quarter’s participants were from Nikkiso America and New Horizon Learning Center, Get 1 Free Duhs Commercial, Wave Crest Resorts and 5-E Web Solutions.
